Missouri is a biological crossroads — eastern deciduous forest, tallgrass prairie, Ozark plateau, and the bottomland forests of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers all converge here. The Ozark Highlands are one of the oldest continuously exposed landmasses in North America, and their ancient karst topography supports plant communities with some of the highest levels of endemism in the Midwest.
